Tag x3

I have been tagged several times in the last couple of months, and just never got around to it - beware, this is a long post full of useless information about me and Landon, so feel free to skip this round. Sorry to those who have been tagging me and gotten no response, hopefully this makes up for it!

#1 - Husband tag (tagged by Erin)

1. Where did you meet? Mrs. Woolf's "We the People" government class in high school. I guess technically we met in the 5th grade, but neither one of us remembers ever speaking to each other before our senior year of high school. They do these computer date matches at Madsion, and you can buy yours on Valentine's day for like a dollar. So we both did, and we were both #3 on each others' print-outs. I demanded to know who he was, and found out he was in my class! So I went into class and sat by him, determined to get to know him. The rest is history.
2. How long did you date before you got married? Well...a total of around 31/2 years, sort of. 9 months before his mission, then he left, then 9 months after his mission.
3. How long have you been married? 18 months in one week.
4. What does he do that surprises you? What DOESN'T he do that surprises me? I guess one thing is that I didn't expect him to be the one to do the laundry.
5. What is your favorite feature of his? I love his smile and his laugh! That's what hooked me.
6. What is your favorite quality of his? He has such a strong testimony. Also, he's hilarious. And just a good guy. Sorry, that was 3.
7. Does he have a nickname for you? He has about 27 million nicknames for me. My favorite is KP. It stands for Kylie P. Burgener. And no, I don't have a middle name.
8. What is his favorite color? Blue
9. What is his favorite food? I don't know if it's his favorite because of the food...but he loves to go to Cafe Peru. He also really likes fajitas, cajun chicken salad, and tortilla soup.
10. What is his favorite sport? Is reading a sport?
11. When and where was your first kiss? Summer 2004, on the sidewalk around the corner from my house, there used to be a vacant lot there, but now it's a house...sad.
12. What is your favorite thing to do as a couple? Go to Barnes and Noble! And read.
13. Do you have any children? Nope. Someday.
14. Does he have a hidden talent? Um...not that I can think of. He has many talents, but nothing strange.
15. How old is he? 23.
16. Who said "I love you" first? He did. I think. High school was a long time ago.
17. What is his favorite type of music? Coldplay and Ben Folds.
18. What do you admire most about him? He is super smart
19. Do you think he will read this? Nope :) But he'll mad I said that.

I tag my mom, Mckell, and Jocelyn for this one!

#2 - Photo tag (tagged by Andrea, I think)
I have avoid doing this one, simply because I don't keep a lot of photos on my work computer, which is where I always update. But there are a few, so here goes (4th folder, 4th photo):

I have to laugh, because this is probably the most random photo I could have chosen. We took this picture right before Dallin's (Landon's brother on a mission in Slovakia) birthday, and sent it to him in our weekly email. Gotta love it!

I tag Stefanie, Jamie and Abby for this one!

#3 - 6 Quirks About Yourself (tagged by Chelsi)

  1. I count stairs. There are 13 stairs at my parents house, 14 stairs at my in-laws house, 2 flights of 9 and 10 stairs (respectively) to the upper floor of my office, 14 stairs on the upper floors of the Spori, 17 on the lower floors, and 152 stairs from my apartment at BYU to campus. I'm not kidding. I can't stop counting, it's a little bizarre.

  2. I get super scared of movies. I've already shared this to some degree - but I literally will not be able to sleep at night if I see anything disturbing.

  3. I still remember all of the counties in Idaho - and the 50 states - from songs learned in the 4th grade.

  4. I can beat the game of "Bop-It." It's a little-known fact that if you go fast enough long enough, the game just shuts off. I call that winning.

  5. I tend to yell a lot when I am cooking. I drop things and spill things constantly, and then I let out these little yelps of frustration. For the first 6 months of our marriage, Landon would come running in all worried that something serious had happened...now he just ignores me. Hopefully nothing bad ever really does happen!

  6. I am ALWAYS freezing. Even when it's really warm outside. I have a huge collection of hoodies that I put to good use. I also sleep with a hot water bottle to keep my toes warm. Landon thinks I'm cold blooded. It might be true.
I had to think way too hard about that. I tag Chelsea D. and Kyle for this one!

Off we go, into the wild blue yonder

Friday night was Kylie's turn to plan date night. Unfortunately, by Friday night we didn't have any energy left for a date night! So Kylie cleverly suggested putting date night off until Saturday. Landon seemed content with that, so we redboxed it up (being pleasantly surprised by "Journey to the Center of Earth" we should have listened to you Chel!) and relaxed our Friday away.

Saturday morning we got up fairly early and made the trek to Roy to see something that's been on our to-do list since we moved to Utah - the Hill Air Force Base Aerospace museum!

Landon loves everything to do with flying and space. He often says he would have a been a jet fighter pilot if he had 20/20 vision - Kylie teases him that she could be one if she wanted to be. :) Kylie also has a soft spot for airplanes...in the fourth grade she participated in a "History Fair" and won the regional competition with a project on the Wright Brothers (although it was probably the matching dresses that did it - how we miss our friend Lindsay).

The museum is huge! For some reason, Kylie was expecting something like the Rexburg flight museum (which is cool, don't get me wrong). This was a whole new experience. We spent about 3 hours there.

We saw an actual atomic bomb...it gave me the creeps:

If you've ever wondered what a caisson that goes rolling along is (although it's possible that we are alone in our perpetual inquisitiveness):

We saw an SR-71, which sadly was one of Kylie's favorite bands when she was in 9th grade. The plane is a lot cooler than the band.

This plane is called an "Aardvark." If you don't get why that warrants a photo op, you probably aren't good enough friends with us to be reading this blog...

And here we have...

The cool kind of planes that they flew in the Doolittle Raid.

Can you see Landon? He's the tiny little thing under the monstrous airplane...can you believe this thing flies?
Fun with the camera!

We had such a good time, and can't wait to find more adventures like this in Utah!

The Age of Prosperity is Over

My good friend Heidi recently posted this fabulous article on her amazing blog. It really sums up the way I feel about how people are acting about the economy lately. I do feel terrible who those people who are losing their homes right now, but irresponsibility on their part and on the part of the banks who loaned them the money should not equal money out of MY pocket. I was uneasy about the bailout at its outset, but the more I read about it, the more I become downright furious. I did hear recently from an economist who gave a presentation at my office - he maintains that the government has a chance of making billions of dollars on this "investment." That may be so, but I don't believe that we as taxpayers will ever see the benefits. We have become a nation of complainers believe that we are "entitled" to wealth and all the possessions of our neighbors and those happy people in the commercials on TV.

Meanwhile, some of us are making our way through college, commuting, working 11 hour days, renting tiny apartments and living on a careful cash only budget with no Nintendo (I know, it seems impossible, but trust me, the right to own a Wii Fit is nowhere in the constitution), no big-screen TV, old, mismatching couches, books from D.I., movies from the library, few vacations...all so we can pay for school without going into debt and save enough for a down payment on a house that we can actually afford when we are able to start our family.

But enough ranting. As my sage-like father would say; "Life's not fair!"

Go Grizzlies!

Wednesday night, we were able to score tickets to a Grizzlies hockey game from Kylie's work. We had a lot of fun with some of Kylie's work friends.

Landon's favorite part was the Zamboni.

Kylie's favorite part was the huge fight that broke out!

About half way through, we got really bored and started taking random pictures of ourselves...then we went and bought a pretzel.

We had to call Wesley, Landon's little brother who is a sports fanatic!
We had a great time, (and the Grizzlies won!) although we're not sure we'll become major hockey fans in the future. Go Grizzlies!

Finally!

The Camberlangos family portraits (at least a few of them, anyway), are finally up on my photo blog. Thanks for being so patient, Abby! I am hoping to have most of them finished and posted by this weekend, so keep checking back!

It's beginning to look a lot like...

We woke up this morning, and this is what we found...

The first real snow of the season! We're starting to get very excited for the holidays!

(Also, if you couldn't tell, I found my memory card late last night, yay!!)

We Voted!

Even if we did do it for the stickers, we're proud to show off our patriotism. We didn't have to stand in line at all, which was a pleasant surprise, after the media had hyped up the "record turnout" and all. We're proud to be voters!

And we've gotta say, no matter who you support, you had to feel the weight of history last night as they announced the winner. I personally believe that the founders (for the most part) would be proud of how far we have come regarding racial equality. We can't wait to talk with Kylie's grandfather, who lived in Tennesee during the 60s, and Landon's grandparents as well, about the stark contrast between our nation then and our nation now. We're following with interest the reactions of other countries.

Dick Clark's Rockin' All Hallow's Eve

Halloween is not my favorite holiday. I think this is largely due to the fact that they make such a huge deal of it at ThomasArts. EVERYONE dresses up - I don't think they'd let in the door if you didn't, and there are prizes for the best costume. I've learned this last year working in advertising that designers are way more creative and talented than me in every contest we've ever had at work (dancing, sports, costumes, etc), so I stopped competing with them long ago. However, as I already said, I absolutely had to dress up. Since I had to have a costume, I decided that Landon did, as well. So this year...

We decided to make my brother proud --- and I happened to have a white robe from my high school graduation. We went as Leia and Han Solo from Star Wars. It was quite a success. No, I didn't win anything at work (nor did I expect to), but everyone complimented me, a big change from last year, when I was unsure if I should even really dress up, so I ended up changing into a prom dress at work and feeling pretty dumb. We got Landon's costume at D.I.

Since we were already dressed up (oh, and because Abby and Nick abandoned us), we decided this year to have a little party! Real cousins Molly and Chelsea came, adopted cousin Kyle came, and dear high school friends Jenna and Jesse drove up from Provo. Everyone wore costumes, because we think we're awesome.

And I gotta say, the costumes were pretty amazing! "The cousins" were all Harry Potter characters, and Molly really got into it. As she says "I might be a better Snape than Snape!" Chel came complete with a real live time-turner, and Kyle went all-out and bleached his hair for the occasion. Jenna was Elphaba (from Wicked), and Jesse was an unidentified founding father. By the end of the night, we settled on Alexander Hamilton, although I think that was mostly because Molly really liked calling him "Hammy."

The evening kicked off with some old-style games (complete with pupkin straws and Halloween pencils for prizes). First, we ate doughnuts on a string:

Molly kicked my butt, but Landon won!

After the doughnut escapades, we played "pin the tail on the wolf-man." I don't have any pictures of this, but if you look at the first picture of Landon and I in our costumes, you can see the amazing poster Landon made for this game. I love having such a talented husband! We had everyone draw their own tails, which turned out to be pretty fun. Surprisingly, everyone got really close to the mark. We then moved on to the cookie-decorating contest (thanks for the cookies Chel)! Here is the winning cookie, and all of the rest of them: Not bad eh? They tasted delicious, also. Can you tell which one is Molly's? We rounded off the night by watching "The Village." For those of you who know me, you will know that this was quite the feat for me. I hate all scary movies, and I especially hate M. Night Shyamalan - nothing personal against him, I just can't handle his movies. I let everyone talk me into it after many promises that there were no dead people and it wasn't really scary. Well, there were TWO dead people (count 'em, Kyle, I'm not buying the dog story), and plenty of freakiness to go around. Landon was seriously regretting talking me into it at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday. Luckily, we got our hour of sleep back the next night! No more scary movies for me, I mean it this time! It's just not worth it.

All in all, our party was a success, and I think everyone had a good time. It was much better than just sitting home handing out candy to the three or four kids that came to our door. In other news, I have lost both memory cards for my camera! I have Chelsea to thank for these pictures. If anyone has seen them, please let me know, I am getting desperate and running out of places to look!
